Project Description

This project looks into how light can be adequately provided into remodeled existing housing units on a construction site located at Ilesa, Nigeria. Daylighting has been inadequate and night-illumination provision has been epileptic in the spaces. This project attempts to resolve the lighting issues by remodeling of the housing units especially the fenestration sizes, and by inserting solar fluorescent tubes into the panes of the sliding windows. The tubes are treated with a phosphorescent compound (Strontium Aluminate) which stores light from the solar fluorescent tubes when it is in use and glow when the tubes are switched off. All these design proposals allow for required indoor illumination level both day and night.
