Project Description

Background Shanghai is one of the most prosperous cities in China. However, Shanghai doesn’t pay enough attentions to the blinds who belong to the vulnerable group in society. It is a common situation that tactile paving is always occupied by junk and vehicles, which causes that although there are numerous tactile paving in Shanghai, few blind men have chances to use them. We are in the circumstance that the propaganda of commonwealth becomes empty symbolism and governmental facilities are always ignored and occupied privately. Perhaps, the only solution is to combine tactile paving, this communal facility, with commerce to endow it with a particular commerciality and economic effectiveness. This method maybe can not only make tactile paving reenter into our sight, but also draw public attention to vulnerable group. This design based on strong demand of propaganda around shopping malls combines tactile paving with rental positions of advertisements. Business companies would actively participate into the maintain and clean of tactile paving for the purpose of protect advertisement positions. design concept The Business District which uses Huaihai Road as the centre is crowded, and the situation of occupation of tactile paving is serious. This ironic design will also have certain effect on public education. Application of light We choose TioCem to absorb organic pollution by ultraviolet ray in the daytime. This material could convert and store light energy through photocatalytic reaction. Transparent blocks of tactile paving will not bother blind men to walk, but advertising posters under the blocks could attract pedestrians. In the nighttime, after TioCem stores enough light energy, it could convert light energy into electricity through electric transfer. In the meanwhile, blocks can illuminate on the street as street lighting, so that pedestrians could look through advertising posters under the transparent blocks. As for every street, business companies could rent certain advertising positions of tactile paving to build advertisements into transparent blocks. The damage and occupation of tactile paving mean that advertisements could not function maximumly. As a result, the interests of business companies would make spontaneous maintenance of tactile paving operate smoothly.
