HARRAN BEEHIVE HOUSES HARRAN, IS A DISTRICT OF SANLIURFA PROVINCE IN TURKEY. HARRAN HAS HOSTED MULTIPLE CIVILIZATIONS FROM ONE. ITS HISTORY DATES BACK TO 4000 YEARS. THE NEWEST KNOWN HOUSE WAS BUILT 250 YEARS AGO.HARRAN BEEHIVE HOUSES, WHICH ARE IDENTIFIED WITH HARRAN, STILL REMAIN. THERE ARE TWO REASONS WHY THE DOME PARTS OF HARRAN HOUSES ARE COVERED WITH BRICKS. ONE IS THE ABSENCE OF WOOD MATERIAL DUE TO THE DESERT REGION, AND THE OTHER IS THE ABUNDANT BRICK MATERIAL IN HARRAN. THE HEIGHT OF THE HOUSES ARE BUILT UP FROM THE INSIDE UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 5 METERS, WITH A SERIES OF 30-40 BRICKS. THE DOME AND WALLS CONNECTED WITH SLIME PLASTER ARE COVERED WITH THIS MORTAR FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. HARRAN HOUSES ARE WARM IN THE WINTER, COOL IN SUMMER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REGIONAL CLIMATE.THE DOME SURFACES HAVE GOT HOLES ON THEM. THESE HOLES PROVIDE THE SUNLIGHT TO INTERIOR SPACES. HARRAN IS VERY HOT AND DROUGHTY IN SUMMER.HARRAN IS VERY COLD IN WINTER. THESE HOLES ARE CLOSED IN WINTER TIME DUE TO THE NEGATIVE CLIMATE. THESE HOUSES RECEIVE LOW SUNLIGHT IN WINTER TIMES.SOME HOUSES ARE PROTECTED ,MOST OF THE HOUSES ARE STILL USED AS A RESIDENCE. HARRAN HOUSES ARE PRESENTED WITH ITS CULTURAL VALUES ARE IN TOURISM REGION. DESIGN CONCEPT HOW TO USE THE SUNLIGHT MOST EFFICIENTLY? THIS AREA IS A VERY OLD RESIDENTIAL AREA. ELECTRICITY CANNOT BE PROVIDED IN THIS REGION ENOUGH TO THE LOSS OF INFRASTRUCTURE. BECAUSE OF THIS REASON, THE PUBLIC HAS MIGRATED FROM HERE. MOST HOMES WAS EMPTY AFTER WHEN PEOPLE MIGRATED. THE REFUGEES WERE PLACED IN THOSE HOUSES AFTER THE HOUSES WERE EMPTIED. ASYLUM SEEKERS DO NOT BENEFIT FROM ELECTRICAL, THEY CAN ONLY BENEFIT FROM DAYLIGHT. THE HOUSES UNDER PROTECTION CAN BE USED ONLY FOR DAYTIME TOURISTIC PURPOSES. ALSO, THESE HOLES ARE CLOSED DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. DAYLIGHT USAGE IS REDUCED. THE DESIGN AIM TO MAKE MAXIMUM USE OF DAYLIGHT. THE NUMBER OF SUNNY DAYS IN THE AREA INCREASES THE POTENTIAL FOR SUN USE. WHY NOT USE THIS POTENTIAL WE PROVIDE AT NIGHT? WITH THIS DESIGN, DAYLIGHT STORED IN THE DAYTIME IS USED AS A NIGHT LIGHTING ELEMENT. THIS SYSTEM TAKES PLACE IN TRANSPARENT ACRYLIC CAPSULES. THESE CAPSULES ARE INSTALLED IN THE HOLES. THUS, DAYLIGHT CAN BE USED EVEN IN BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. EFFICIENCY CAN BE ACHIEVED IN ALL CONDITIONS. LIGHT TRANSMISSION USING THE SUNLIGHT AT THE NIGHT(!) DAYTIME WE AIMED TO USE THE INCOMING DAYLIGHT IN 2 DIFFERENT WAYS. WE DESIGNED A SYSTEM PART THAT PROVIDES THIS. ONE SIDE OF THE SYSTEM PART IS INTENDED TO REFLECT THE LIGHT AND THE OTHER SIDE IS WORKING FOR STORING LIGHT. SOLAR CELLS - THE LIGHT COMING TO THE SOLAR CELLS IS STORED IN THE BATTERY FOR LATER USE.( LOW SUNLIGHT, NIGHTS) REFLECTIVE SURFACE - REFLECTING THE INCOMING SUNLIGHT, THE REFLECTIVE TUBE IS TRANSMITTED. ACRYLIC ROUGH REACHES BY REFLECTING FROM THE REFLECTIVE TUBE. THE ACRYLIC CAP HAS LIGHT DISTRIBUTOR FEATURE. DIFFUSER LIGHT LENSES LOCATED IN THIS ENCLOSURE PROVIDE HOMOGENIC ILLUMINATION OF INTERIOR SPACE NIGHT THE ENERGY STORED IN THE BATTERY IS USED FOR LED LIGHTING AT NIGHT AND ALSO WHEN THE LIGHT IS LOW. THERE ARE LEDS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SYSTEM PART. THERE IS A LIGHT SENSOR OUTSIDE THIS CAPSULE. WHEN DAYLIGHT DECREASES, SENSORS WILL WARN LEDs. LEDs LIGHT UP AUTOMATICALLY. LEDs ON THE UPPER SURFACE ILLUMINATE THE EXTERIOR. THE LEDS ON THE INNER SURFACE ARE REFLECTED IN THE REFLECTIVE TUBE AND BECOME MORE EFFICIENT. THE LIGHT PASSING THROUGH THE REFLECTIVE TUBE REACHES THE ACRYLIC CONTAINER. THUS, HOMOGENEOUS LIGHT SCATTER IS PROVIDED INTERIOR SPACE.
