Project Description
Overview Every society morphs with time to form its own language, both literally and metaphorically. But regarding challenges to human civilization there have almost always been identifiable solutions. For the Indian Subcontinent, the Himalayan region has always been a subject riddled with struggles. Traditionally, life in that region has always been about living together as any other primarily agrarian/ pastoral community in its budding phases. And as such, this has caused a lot of the natural wildlife to counter the efforts of the local farmers. The relationship people had with their environment has drastically changed over the years, owing to population demands and political pressures. These interactions with nature have changed from a harmonious cohabitation to conflict. To sustain human life, one is forced to look for alternative methods to protect crops from being trampled by wild species like those of the wild boars, rhesus monkeys, assamese macaques, barking deers, crested porcupines, indian hares, asian black bears etc, for the scarecrow as an ancient myth, does not suffice! These regions identify crop raiding as a substantial threat to their village supplies. They have been making plausible methods to keep wild animals at bay as it is a crucial need for the present situations these communities face. With animals growing resistant to scare tactics such as dolls and noises, and with fewer and fewer active youth participation in activities such as drum beating, making scary noises, etc, we have to look for more sustainable alternative solutions. The proposed device Our solution proposes a simple gadget which is easy to assemble from its conceptionto its use, with no damage caused to the environment. The product maybe described as a large slender pole which emits light to scare off wild animals. What is ingenious is how it uses the sunlight it absorbs. The uppermost part is theabsorber, which absorbs energy from the incident sunlight. This energy is then stored inside simple silicon ships which get the electrons flowing between the plates. This stores a charge inside a battery to be used later. Equipped with a light sensor, the device can detecta reduction in the amount light photons during the night time. Then it automatically flashes multiple red light rays from the holes in the bottom part of the device. These lights inturn alarm the wild animals without causing any fatality on either side.It fools the animal into believing that it's being actively surveilled by a farmer, causing them to go away. Since red light is by far the longest travelling wavelength of all the visible wavelengths, regardless of the weather the device works, and so does the recharging, even in cloudy days. Also the material can procured by a nearby city which has a plastic mill so the device can be easily set up.
