Project Description
Togo, a country in West Africa whose economy is largely based on trade. And Lomé, its capital, is the main commercial center with various equipment (markets, super markets, fairs). We found that at the marketplace of Gbossimé (Lomé) that some traders stayed in the sun to sell. And after dark, traders could no longer sell for lack of lighting when demand was strong. The idea of the project is to use light to allow traders to sell more and at the same time help buyers to buy and socialize. We noticed on the market place of Gbosssimé, the use of umbrellas as a protective structure. So, we took up this concept in our project. We were inspired by the umbrella to design our pavillon. Our pavilion, easy to assemble, using cheap and locally sourced materials which includes; bamboo, straw, cement. The pavilion provides shade during the day to traders and light at night which comes from LED lamps integrated in a bamboo rod with solar panel. This latter stock of electricity is enough to light up the market place at night. The market place can contribute to sustainable economic, social and environmental development.
