Project Description
The building aims to propose possible solutions with new technology and new ceremony in the face of various environmental and land problems brought by the funeral process and tradition in the context of Chinese traditional culture and land-use policy. The project is located at the bottom of the mountains in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province where city meet the forest and where mountain trails begin. It is surrounded by green trees with conventional residential buildings and tombs scattered among the paths. Moreover, a new university is located here. The location can be seen as the junction of the old and the new. The project will focus on two points. The First thing is the poetic and narrative nature of architecture. The designer hopes to express its thinking and understanding of life and death through architectural space, light, and materials, and make the whole architecture resonate with people's feelings. The second is the structure and technology of the building. The operation of the entire building would be efficient and safe through the selection of appropriate materials and structures as well as consideration of the overall spatial function distribution. The road of lost thing, The project can be seen as a mountain road itself, winding up the slope to form a journey and funerary narrative, via an articulation of space, light, courtyard with the use of recycled material. Occupiers, will not only as mourners but also as tourists, embarking on the journey of pursuing the lost life through architecture. In the process, there are exploration, recollection, enjoyment, and sorrow. The whole building is divided into three parts, the underground space, the tower, and the roof. The underground part is a ritual process. When people begin the journey from the entrance, they will experience a long and dark tunnel to recollect memories. The tower is a vertical structure connecting the upper and lower parts, sublimating from death to life. The upper part is the landscape with the roof. Someone sleeps here. Finally, the travellers will return to the original starting point and complete an implied life cycle through the intricate mountain road. And designers believe that after the circulation, what goes around comes around.
