Project Description

The Mongolian nomads still retain the traditional migration culture at present. The research shows that temporary tents are built by pillars, supporting the whole tent and felts, covering the external. It is not only troublesome but also environmentally unfriendly for people to keep warm by making fire and keeping lots of felts. Meanwhile, it is difficult to satisfy people’s needs of light and heat because of the remote location and poor infrastructure in the prairie. Therefore, we are eager to find a suitable way to solve those problems. We hope to solve the problem of movement, the most remarkable feature of migration, by a removable optical storage device. Inspired by tent materials, we found that the felts on the surface of the tent can combine well with cotton fibers. Thus, the device is prone to be light filament gobbet, with cotton fiber on its surface, which absorbs solar energy in the daytime and converts it into light and heat at night. This device is characterized by mobility both microscopically and macroscopically. Firstly, the light filament in the device can be gathered or taken out. Furthermore, it can be hold on the hands or put on the felts of the temporary tents, which meet people’s needs of illumination and heat at night. Secondly, the light made by light filament when the nomads set up a tent during their migration represents the inheritance of migration culture. Because the routes of migration vary from seasons, the light made by light filament is changing, which forms the light road on the prairie and brings vitality to the dull prairie life.
