Project Description

DAYLIGHT ANALYSIS OF INTERIOR NOTHERN LIGHT HOUSE Our main task was making an climate-based daylight modeling and analysis using sun and two types of sky conditions CIE clear sky and cloudy sky. Moreover we decided to think over the proces of our design decisions. House is covered mostly with glass on north-east side, there were fears of receiving a glare effect instead of simply beautiful view on the Inari Lake. There was a suggestion to what would happen if we removed the intersection of the solid with glazing or put some windows in the kitchen. Our research problem was surprsingly solved quickly. The more windows the better. Taking into account average weather in Inari (Lapand, Finland) we received satisfying parameter for any windows. For really extreme conditions we may suggest using mechanical blinds and in the morning. The proposed change in the front facade after adding a window to illuminance the kitchen. 21.05.20 We used daylight visualizer 2 and Revit with plugin Insight 360 to made this analysis. That gave us possibility compare to each other results. Unfortunately we could set up only 21st day of any month what actually thwarted our plans. As it’s commonly known – extreme conditions for different latitudes may occur on different days. What’s more setting up latitudes happens only for capital cities. In our case we think this point could influence the final results. In the morning we can observe a very large amount of light entering the house through the glazed wall. After waking up and during morning activities, there may be glare. We think that in summer the room could overheat. It would be good to think about curtains and ventilation 22.09.20 Occurrence of the nothern lights is definitely changing a bit perspective of perception of our projects. During the polar light (thanks to enormous glazzing) the house may bet become comfortable observating spot. Occurrence of the nothern lights is definitely changing a bit perspective of perception of our projects. During the polar light (thanks to enormous glazzing) the house may bet become comfortable observating spot. Huge advantage of the visualizer is that it helps a lot during the design proces and explain a lot of decisions. It’s also quite easy to use and there’s possibility to import sketch-up model saved in – obj format. If you use Revit in your work, we don’t see problem to use this tool – it’s litlle harder, but still is synchronized with your project. 20.12.20 In polar nights we need to illuminate the rooms with electric light. We can see that Revit is more precise, because we can observe a more information about level of luxes. DAYLIGHT ANALYSIS OF EXTERIOR NOTHERN LIGHT HOUSE 01.12.2020 All elevations shaded. Thus the polar night area is dark. In conclusion interior will need electric lighting. Enormous glass walls with electric lighting coming from the inside may cause lack of intimacy. During this time of the year glass walls causes escape of heat. Outdoor lighting to consider 20.05.20 In the morning east elevation exposed to sun. West elevation shaded. In the noon elevations exposed to sun – East and South. Terrace shaded. Rooftop receive recommended duration of sunlight exposure. May happen the glare effect on glass intersection. West elevation illuminated. Long shadow covering the terrace. Almost all house shaded. Trees picturesquely shades western facade. 22.09.20 Eastern elevation exposed to sun as well as nothern and so is terrace. South and eastern elevation illuminated. North shaded. South and western facades exposed to sun. More windows on south side to consider. All sides covered with darkness. Interior will need electric lighting. Outdoor lighting to consider. CONCLUSIONS: House May have problem with Iluminance during polar days and lack of light during polar nights. We suggest adding window in kithcen so that work table will be well lighted. Fast analysis of light allows us to design more consciously. The polar sea had a significant impact on the creation of this design, thanks to it, the space can be perceived differently than before.
